From the Superintendent
May 2008 UpdateThe last three weeks of school are a flurry of activity with our BPA students competing in the Nationals in Reno and 24 of our Foxes and Vixens competing in the state track meet. Once we add in the elementary music program (May 8th at 7 PM), Kindergarten graduation (May 16th at 6:30 PM), 6th grade graduation (May 19th at 6 PM), Baccalaureate (May 18th at 7 PM), and Senior graduation (May 23 at 7 PM) it seems like every night brings a new cause for celebration and rejoicing. We celebrate with these students and their families as we enjoy these milestones together. I know it was a bit odd to dismiss school at 2:30 PM on a sunny day this week, but it is hard to ignore a call from the National Weather Service warning of tornados headed for De Baca County. While considering the options, I determined that safety had to come first. The National Weather Service had not made a personal County phone call before, so the urgency expressed by the meteorologist had to override my observation of sunshine. Overall the inconvenience of dismissing school an hour early did not seem so bad when the considering the possibility of riding out a tornado watch with students and staff packed in hallways. Thank you for your ever present support and good humor about inconvenience. Sincerely,
Mrs. Miller
